S3E17 - Your Voice Matters
"It takes all of us working together to build a more just world so that we can all live, work, and thrive in this community together."
We're continuing the conversation we began a few weeks ago by discussing how state and local legislation impacts healthy communities, livability, and economic progress. Phillis Lewis of Love Doesn't Hurt 901 and Shahin Samiei of Tennessee Equality Project join us to discuss side effects of recent state legislation.
NOTE: Please note that this episode discusses topics including discrimination, domestic violence and more that might be triggering to some. This episode deals with the topic of recent decisions at the Tennessee state level regarding gender affirming care for minors (TN House Bill 1), drag performances (TN House Bill 9), and the ripple effects impacting all communities. It might be helpful to review the current legislations in Tennessee for clarity in this episode. This conversation was recorded on April 19th, 2023. Since then, legislations and executive orders have shifted slightly and continue to go back and forth, and as a result, some of the things discussed in this episode have also shifted.
