S1E39 - Quiet on set! Let’s get this show on the road!
Knox Shelton of Indie Memphis and Whitney Jo of Playhouse on the Square and Circuit Playhouse take the stage and shine a spotlight on two local organizations that make the 901 a hidden arts gem.
Memphis is a city known for a lot of things, but often times our booming arts & culture scene isn’t one of the first things people think of. Art works to tell stories and translate experiences across various formats, from the canvas, to the stage, onto film and more, and our city has no shortage of impactful tales to tell! On this episode of Meanwhile in Memphis, we introduce you to two local organizations that make the 901 a hidden arts gem. Up first Knox Shelton, the newest leader of Indie Memphis, takes us to the movies! Indie Memphis is an organization that dedicates itself to creating a community through independent film and works to uplift and support the development of local filmmakers, and Knox is here to discuss why Memphis is the perfect place for creatives and also drops his top 3 favorite films of all time. A little later in the show, Whitney Jo, Managing Director of the midtown treasures, Playhouse on the Square and Circuit Playhouse, takes the stage to discuss how she and her team put their people first throughout the pandemic and managed to come out on the other side stronger and ready for the show to go on! We’ll also give you a sneak peek behind the curtain as she spills all the details about Playhouse’s upcoming season.
